Daesan Creative Writing Funds

HISTORY

2012
Grants from the Daesan Creative Writing Funds are designed to help develop a wide range of creative writing genres and to strengthen Korean literature by discovering and fostering new talented writers. Grants are given to writers who have been active for less than 10 years in each of the five categories: poetry, fiction, drama, criticism, and children¡¯s literature. Those who are eligible are invited to participate and winners are selected. In 2012, a total of 467 works were submitted, and selection committee members were comprised of two or three prominent writers in each category, who evaluated and reviewed the submitted works. As a result, Lee Byungil¡¯s Neighbors, together with eight other winners, were selected in five categories. Each winner was awarded 10 million KRW, totaling 90 million KRW, and the writers gained all rights (including copyrights) to their respective works. The winning authors are obligated to use their award money to publish and present their award winning works within a year. The award ceremony was held in the Convention Hall on August 24 on the 23rd Floor of the Kyobo Building. In order to broaden support for the winners, the Foundation intends to increase funding gradually and to publish award winning works in a series format. In 2012, six books that had received funding, including five poetry works and one work of literary criticism, were published.
